Who would have guessed that an Android based gaming console tailored to open-source software developers would generate 2 million dollars in ‘donations’ in one day? Initially, you could pre-order the OUYA console through their Kickstarter page for a 95$ donation, but those went in just a few hours. The team behind OUYA is still in the prototype phase and they’ve already taken orders for more than 20,000 units. You can still pre-order the OUYA for a 99$ donation, but I have a feeling they aren’t going to last very long. The OUYA is all anyone in the video game world is talking about right now. They’re being featured on the front page of nearly every video game related website. The amount of free press they’re generating would be worth at least 2 million dollars. The project is not without a few haters, but I’m optimistic that the team behind the OUYA is going to pull it off. You can read more about the OUYA project at escapist.com.
